DepreciationWorks is a book (GAAP) depreciation calculation and fixed asset management program that is simple to use. It has an Outlook style user interface. Written for accountants or for bookkeepers, for small businesses, or for larger concerns, each of whom has the need for GAAP depreciation computations, schedules, and fixed asset management.

Installation:

Unzip to an empty folder and run Setup.exe. Install Shield will run. Follow the instructions on the screen. See additional installation information below.

DepreciationWorks is fully functional for a 30 day trial. The dprwks1.zip is freely distributable.

See contact information at the bottom of this file.

It is important to read the following before installing DepreciationWorks.

1. Requires Windows 95 or greater.

2. Recommended Display Properties: Right click the Windows Desktop and chose Properties. Click the Settings tab. Colors should be 256 or greater. Screen Area (resolution) should be 800 x 600 or greater. Click the Advanced button. Display Font Size should be Small Fonts.

3. DepreciationWorks is copy protected. Install DepreciationWorks on the local hard disk drive of the computer on which you intend it to be used. The unlock code you receive upon purchase and registration will be specific to the machine onto which you install DepreciationWorks. The same unlock code will not work on more than one computer.

If you evaluate DepreciationWorks on a computer that you ultimately will not be using the program on, then install DepreciationWorks on the computer you will be using before you actually register and buy DepreciationWorks. That way the unlock code you receive will work and actually unlock DepreciationWorks on the machine that you will be using DepreciationWorks on.

If you evaluate DepreciationWorks on a computer that you ultimately will not be using the program on, then it may be better to do your evaluation with the sample company included in DepreciationWorks. That way you avoid the possibility of losing data you actually want to retain in DepreciationWorks once purchased and registered. It is possible to transfer your data between two computers running DepreciationWorks, and it is possible to transfer your data between an unregistered version and a registered version running on separate computers. However that is more trouble than doing your evaluation on the computer you intend to have as the working computer with your actual data.

4. DepreciationWorks is a single user program. DepreciationWorks is not designed to be used by more than one person at a time or to run over a network.

5. When you install DepreciationWorks, accept the default directories for the program and the database tables. These directories will be located on your computer's local hard disk drive.

6. DepreciationWorks is a database program. It needs the Borland Database Engine (BDE) in order to work. DepreciationWorks will install the BDE on your system during set up. The BDE's functionality is called upon by DepreciationWorks as it needs it, and its operations will be transparent to the user.

7. For Corel Office 7 users: Corel Office 7 did not properly install the BDE. Consequently, DepreciationWorks may conflict with the Corel Office 7 BDE improper installation. This means either the database functionality of Corel Office 7 may not work correctly or at all, or DepreciationWorks may not work correctly, or at all, if DepreciationWorks is installed on a computer that uses Corel Office 7. If you are a Corel Office 7 user, you should upgrade to a later version of that program. Later Corel Office versions correctly install the BDE. Later versions of Corel Office will not be affected adversely by the installation of DepreciationWorks.

8. To install DepreciationWorks, locate the Setup.exe file for DepreciationWorks and run it. If your are installing from the file you downloaded from the www.depreciationworks.com web site, the Setup.exe file is in the directory into which you unzipped the installation files, just as is this readme.txt file.

If you are installing from a CD-ROM, the Setup.exe file is in the root directory of the CD-ROM, just as is this Readme.txt file.

When you run Setup.exe, follow the instructions on your screen. DepreciationWorks uses Install Shield to accomplish the installation. A DepreciationWorks folder will be placed in your Programs menu. An icon shortcut to DepreciationWorks will not be placed on your Desktop.
