INTRODUCTION

WAC Server from Foxit Company provides efficient and full featured remote
access to Windows NT/2000/XP machines from workstations or terminals.

Supported access methods include Telnet, SSH (Secure Shell), and Serial
ports. Supported clients include Windows telnet client, other ANSI-compliant
terminals or terminal emulators, and a native WAC terminal program for
Windows 95 or later Windows OS.

You can log on to the server machine through any of the above methods, and
have access to any commands available to Windows command prompt box. You can
also run any tty-based applications, DOS application, or full-screen
text-based applications, as well as some very useful tools come with WAC
Server.

With the support of client program, Foxit WAC Server can support color
text, mouse operation, special keys or key-combinations.

WAC Server is not just an access server, it also includes a collection of
very useful tools that makes your remote access much more convenient and
productive than just using those DOS-like commands. These tools include
file manager, textual and binary editors, event viewer, registry viewer,
email reader/composer, service manager, and others. Foxit will keep
adding more useful utilities to this collection, and make them freely
available to WAC Server users.

The evaluation version limits maximum 2 concurrent users, and it also
periodically sends out evaluation reminder messages. Please contact our
sales people (sales@foxitsoftware.com) for licensing information. The native
WAC client programs (wacterm.exe and wacssh.exe) can be freely distributed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION

Foxit WAC server can only be installed on Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP.

To install Foxit WAC server, logon as Administrator user, unzip the
wac.zip file into a temporary directory, then run the SETUP.EXE file, follow
the instructions on screen.

Please note that Foxit WAC server's Telnet service replaces the Windows
built-in telnet server, so the installation will disable the Windows telnet
server.

After installation, you can start to use WAC server by running
"wacterm localhost" or "wacssh localhost".

To be compatible with most of the text-based applications, please make sure
your client or terminal has screen size 80x25 or larger.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UNINSTALLATION

To uninstall Foxit WAC server, please run the UNINSTALL.EXE file in the
installed directory, then remove all the files inside the installed
directory. You have to be administrator to do the uninstallation.

If you want to re-enable the Windows telnet service, you have to do this
manually using Windows service manager.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLIENT INSTALLATION

Foxit WAC server comes with a free Telnet client program, WACTERM.EXE,
and a free SSH client program, WACSSH.EXE. They can be installed on
Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP.

Although you can use any Telnet or SSH compliant clients to access WAC Server,
it's strongly recommended to use these native client programs whenever
possible, because they provide complete support to all of the WAC Server's
functionalities. Also, these clients support client side printing.

These clients don't require any installation except copying the files. If you
want, you can create a shortcut of the file on your desktop, or in the start
menu.

To run the WACTERM or WACSSH client, double click on it or at the command
line, type "wacterm" or "wacssh" then the host address you want to access.

To remove the WACTERM or WACSSH client, just delete the file.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHUTDOWN OR RESTART WAC SERVER

To shutdown or restart Foxit WAC Server, you can use the Windows Service
Manager or WAC Service Manager, looking for the service titled "Foxit WAC
Server".

Alternatively, you can start, stop, or restart WAC Server from command line,
type "wac start", "wac stop", or "wac restart".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SERVER CONFIGURATION

To reconfigure the server settings, please run CONFIG.EXE. Most
configurations take effective only after you restart the WAC server.

In this application, system administrator can also modify user access
settings for different users, user groups, or all users (choose
"DefaultUserSettings" as user name when modifying for all users).

Host access settings can also be modified for different hosts or
all hosts (choose "DefaultHostSettings" as host name).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SSH SUPPORT

Foxit WAC Server supports the both version 1 and version 2 of Secure Shell
protocol (SSH1/SSH2). It supports up to 256 bit AES encryption as well as 3DES
encryption. All communications between host and terminal are encrypted.

WAC Server supports public key authentication for SSH2. If you want to use
public key to logon, you need to do the followings:

1. Generate a public/private key pair using your client program;
2. Copy the public key file to server, and on the server machine, execute
"wac userkey add <filename> <username>" command to add the key file to
   server accepted public key list;
3. When logon, choose the private key in the client program.
4. The first time logon using public key will always be rejected, unless you
the user doesn't have a password. You need to input the server's password
for the user. Once the password accepted, you won't need to input password
   again.

You can use our free SSH client, WACSSH, to access WAC Server securely.
WACSSH supports password authentication only.

You can also use other SSH clients to connect to WAC Server. One of them is
Secure KoalaTerm from Foxit (http://www.foxitsoftware.com).

Please note some clients might have bugs with the standards, if you experience
problem with third party clients, please change the SSH version or cipher
algorithm settings and try again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SFTP SUPPORT

SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) Server is built-in with WAC Server,
over SSH2 connection only.

We don't have SFTP client or SCP client, there are a number of free SFTP or
SCP clients on the internet, like PuTTY clients available for downloading from
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html.

Both version 3 and version 4 of the SFTP protocol are supported.

WAC Server's SFTP service allows anonymous access to particular server
directory. To enable anonymous SFTP access, you need to run CONFIG.EXE to
set "AnonyAccount", "AnonyDir" and "AnonyAccess" sever settings.

SCP Support: WAC Server only supports SCP client using SFTP protocol.
Like the pscp client within PuTTY project.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PORT FORWARDING SUPPORT

WAC Server provides support to incoming and outgoing port forwarding.
Port forwarding is supported for both SSH1 and SSH2.

You can use WACSSH to connect to WAC Server, and setup the forwarding using
WACSSH command prompt. Press CTRL-] to enter WACSSH command prompt after
you connected to the server.

Use FWDLOCAL command to setup a client side listener for forwarding
connections to server side. Use FWDREMOTE command to setup a server side
listener for forwarding connections to client side. Please type
"HELP FWDLOCAL" or "HELP FWDREMOTE" for more information.

X11 forwarding is not enabled in WAC Server because Windows system doesn't
use X Windows facilities.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SERIAL PORT SUPPORT

To use terminals connected to serial ports, you have to specify the list of
used serial ports when you install WAC Server, or you can run CONFIG.EXE to
set it after you installed.

You can use CONFIG.EXE or "WAC PORT" command to change the communication
settings (like buad rate, data length) for each of the used ports. Those
settings have to match the terminal's settings.

Right now WAC Server only support DEC-VT compatible serial port terminals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WAC APPLICATIONS

Foxit WAC Server also comes with a set of great text-based applications
that will help you a lot when you access the server from remote terminals.

Here is a brief description for all the applications, you can find more
information when you run them:

BINEDIT An editor for binary files
EDIT A much powerful text editor than the old DOS edit tool
EVENTVIEW Windows event viewer
INBOX A tool that let you view your email inbox messages
MINE A small game resembling the one provided by Windows

USERMAN Managing Windows users and user groups
WAC A command line helper for you to view and change WAC server
WACEXPOLER	Exploring your local computer or network neighborhoods

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLIENT SIDE PRINTING

When you remotely access the WAC Server, you might want to print out to a
printer attached or connected to your client machine, instead of the server.

WAC Server supports client side printing. But you need to configure the
printer first, and your client needs to support transparent printing
(WACTERM and WACSSH both support it).

On server machine, you need to create a printer (normally text-only) on
WAC: port. This special port is created during WAC Server installation.

Then, you can map LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3 to the printer use "net use" command.
After that, printing to the mapped port will result in printing on client
side.

IMPORTANT: you have to logon as different user if you want to do client
side printing on different client machine. Also, WACTERM or WACSSH only
support text-only printing so your server printer for WAC printing should
use driver "Generic: Text Only".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROTECTED SHELL

Protected shell (pshell.exe) is a small program that administrator can
choose as designated shell program for some of all users.

This program takes a definition file as input and provide only defined
commands or programs to the user. By this way you can limit what your users
can do to the server.

The definition file can contains the following types of line:

1. Welcome text: "welcome <welcome text>"
2. Prompt text: "prompt <prompt text>"
3. NT shell command: "command <your command name> <NT command line>"
4. Program execution: "execute <your command name> <file path and parameters>"
5. Exit command: "exit <your exit command>"
