POOLSCORE V4.2 - README.TXT

Easily manage a pool for the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Recent Enhancements:
Version 4.2 includes the addition of a 2nd small selection program
that can be easily distributed to the pool participants by Email
or diskette. The V4.0 report additions greatly improve the
communications of status and can provide predictions as to the
likely pool winners as the tournament progresses.

Distribution Agreements:
This software was developed by TPC Software and is distributed as
"Shareware Software". This means you can distribute the
"Unregistered Version" of this software, in its original unmodified
format, freely to others for their evaluation and consideration.

If you believe that this software does not offer enough value to
warrant registering and paying the $24.00 registration fee, then
you should remove the software from your machine. If you do find
it is of sufficient value and would like to register the software,
then you will find additional information in the section on
Registration Information.

License Agreement:
You may use the Unregistered Shareware Version of this software on
a trial basis for thirty (30) days. After that period, you should
either register it or completely remove it from you computer. The
Unregistered Shareware Version is identified by the word
"UNREGISTERED COPY" in the "About PoolScore" pop-up window
displayed at the startup of the program. The Unregistered Version
contains all of the same functionality of the Registered Version
except that it is limited to scoring and printing only four (4)
pool participants.

The Registered Shareware version of the software is intended to be
registered and used by an individual conducting a non-commercial
pool or acting as a "Pool Coordinator". This Registered User may
execute this software on a single PC to prepare for as many NCAA
Basketball Tournaments (or other applicable tournaments) as they
like. This Registered User may also make the Licensed version
available or distribute the Unlicensed version of the code to
ALL OF THEIR POOL PARTICIPANTS without additional licensing.
The Registered Version may be stored on a network drive and
accessed by the participants in the pool. The User may make
enough copies of the original program code and related files as
are necessary to ensure adequate backup and recovery. The User
may not modify or reverse engineer the software or documentation
files in any way.

Description:
PoolScore (for Windows 95, 98, ME and NT) is an automated tool that
allows the setup, team selection, monitoring, and final scoring of
a single elimination tournament. The format of the application is
designed to conform to the structure of the end of season NCAA
Basketball Tournament.

PoolScore makes running a NCAA Basketball Tournament pool easy. The
Pool Coordinator uses a graphic display to enter the names of the 64
Teams, make any desired modifications to titles, add instructional
notes, and select the point values for each flight of the tournament.

This setup goes very quickly. But, as an alternative, the author will
make a configuration file (POOLSTART.PSS) for the 2002 NCAA Basketball
tournament available at http://www.tpcsoftware.com when the team
selections and seed positions are announced. Then, the Pool Coordinator
will only need to enter any optional notes or make changes to the point
values awarded for correct selections by flight.

All team selection and the recording of results are done through either
a "drag & drop" or "point & click" interface. Pool selection forms and
progress reports can be printed out at any time. The tournament format
screen can be used to show player progress and "what if results" as the
tournament progresses. A comprehensive form has been designed to allow
the selection of seven pre-designed reports; these reports provide status
and predictions of likely winners. All these reports can be either
printed, saved to a file, or distributed via EMail. This report
form also provides an interface to the popular "Customized Report
Generator" and to formatted tournament form listings.

NOTE: A "drag & drop" display and report format can be used to create
a large number of display and report formats to monitor and report
progress on the tournament results. See the HELP File description for
"Scoring Results".

Installation

The PoolScore Application is packaged and distributed in one PKZIP file
named POOLSC40.ZIP (or possibly by the generic name of POOLSC.ZIP).

1) Select or Create a working directory ( drive:\directory\ ) to copy
POOLSC40.ZIP and then UN-ZIP this file.

This step will produce five files:

  1) POOLSC1.CAB	1st file containing programs & support modules
  2) POOLSC2.CAB 2nd file containing programs & support modules
  3) SETUP.LST Text file containing installation instructions
  4) SETUP.EXE Program used to initiate the installation
  5) README.TXT THIS FILE!
  6) HISTORY.TXT	History of program modifications and updates
  7) FILE_ID.DIZ	Quick identifier and description file
  8) PAD_FILE.XML	PAD File, full file in XML
  9) PAD_FILE.HTM	PAD File, abbreviated in HTML format

2) From the Windows START menu, choose RUN, and type:

	   drive:\directory\SETUP.EXE

This will initiate the automated installation process. The install will
select C:\Program Files\PoolScore as the location to install the PoolScore
Application. You can accept this location or select any other drive and
directory for the installation. You will be prompted for your preference
of a Startup Program Group to add the PoolScore Icon. If you don't have
a preference one will be selected.

That's it, the installation is complete!

Diskette Packaging:

You may also find PoolScore distributed on two 3 1/2" diskettes. The
files contained on these two diskettes will be the same as the files
identified in Step 1 above.

If this is the packaging you received, then copy both diskettes to a
working directory on your disk and proceed with Step 2 (above) to complete
the installation.

If interested, there is more detail in the installation files and other
information in the Technical Explanation Section of the Help Documentation.

Removal of PoolScore:

When you install PoolScore, the SETUP program copies the Application-
Removal Utility ST6UNST.EXE to the \WINDOWS or \WINNT directory. Each
time you use the Setup Program to install PoolScore, a Removal Log File
ST6UNST.LOG) is generated in the installation directory.

If you should want to remove PoolScore, use the Windows Add/Remove Programs
section of the Control Panel.
