MakeCakeINS for Win95/98 Freeware 1998 by
Version 1.20 Sergio Konvisaroff
------------------------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW
--------
MakeCakeINS is a small program to help you integrate Cakewalk with
SB AWE sound card(s). Here integrate means to allow you see in
Cakewalk both patch and drum note names for all SoundFont banks
loaded in AWE.

INSTALLATION
------------
MakeCakeINS does not require special installation. Just put it
wherever you like on the disk. You may create a shortcut and place
it on the desktop.

UNINSTALLATION
--------------
Just delete MakeCakeINS.exe from the disk. Program writes nothing
to Registry, *.ini, or shared directories.

HOW IT WORKS
------------
Suppose you are designing a drum part for a composition and
suddenly decide to add a fat stereo tom sound you know you have in
MyStereoToms.SF2 bank. You start AWE32 Control Panel, load
MyStereoToms.SF2 in User variation 001 slot. Then you start
MakeCakeINS (it will automatically detect loaded banks), press a
button and have Cakewalk instrument file written to disk. Then you
switch back to Cakewalk and go through menu and buttons:
Tools/Instrument/Define/Import to import that file. Then you go to
desired track, select bank (by name MYSTEREOTOMS Drum Bank not
by number) and select wanted patch (by name not by number). Now if
you go to Piano Roll you will see sample names assigned to drum
notes by designer of that SoundFont bank. In this case you will
have the information on if the note will ever sound at all and
what is the general feel of that note. You do no longer have to
walk through all notes (by numbers) to find wanted cake ;-)

EXPECTED ENVIRONMENT
--------------------
* Windows 95/98.
* SB AWE32/64 or compatible sound card (AWE32 Control Panel
  required).
* One of famous Cakewalk programs.
* Huge amount of SoundFont banks.

IMPORTANT NOTES
---------------
* Program uses non-documented way to extract paths to SoundFont
bank files loaded in AWE. If you know the proper way please let
  the author know.
* Current version does not extract drum note names from old
SoundFont banks (*.SBK and *.SF1). You should convert them to
new format with any of Creative Labs: sf1to2 utility or Vienna
  SoundFont Studio 2 program.

HINTS
-----
* If you have no other sound card but AWE32 or AWE64 or both, then
you may want to save Cakewalk instrument file directly over
master.ins and skip the process of importing it in Cakewalk. You
will only need to ensure Cakewalk is not running while you are
  writing to master.ins
* If you are designing a new SoundFont bank do not hurry to put
names like sample1, sample2 for your samples. Try to put best-
fit name describing that particular sound. Sometime afterward,
you will see these names in Cakewalk and give thanks to yourself
  for such informative descriptions.
* If you use Cakewalk SoundFont Manager you may still want to use
this program too because it shows more information for banks and it
supports multiple sound card in a computer.
