-----------What is Joy.exe?--------------
-----------------------------------------
True happiness comes from within. That
is the premise behind Joy.exe. By
running it, you'll be reminding yourself
of all the wonderful things in your life
that make you happy and feel joyful.

Joy.exe is a simple Win95/98/2000/NT
application, built with Visual Basic,
that saves and shares items from an ever-
growing list of things that bring you joy
and happiness.

Each time Joy.exe is run, it either asks
you to type in something that brings you
joy (and appends it to your list) or it
displays a randomly selected joy (from
your list) that was previously saved. At
first, Joy.exe asks you to enter new joys
a large proportion of the time (to build
up the list), but as your list grows, you
are rewarded by a larger proportion of
joyful displays.
-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------
----------Yep, it's Freeware!------------
-----------------------------------------
Happiness & joy are free and so is
Joy.exe. It is Freeware and is freely
distributable. Share it as you like.
-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------
---------How to Install Joy.exe----------
-----------------------------------------
Installing Joy.exe is relatively easy.
In the zip archive, there are two files:
Readme.txt (this file you're reading) and
Joy.exe. All you need to do is unzip
these two files (using Winzip or PKZip)
to the directory of your choice (e.g.,
C:\Program Files\Joy). Joy.exe is the
program you'll want to run. Refer back
to Readme.txt anytime you need to.

We recommend making a shortcut to Joy.exe
and placing it in your StartUp folder so
that Joy.exe runs every time you restart
your computer. This way you'll get at
least one gentle daily reminder of what
brings you joy and happiness. See FAQ
below if you're not sure how to create
a shortcut in the StartUp menu.

-----------------------------------------
---------How to Uninstall Joy.exe--------
-----------------------------------------
To uninstall Joy.exe, just delete
Joy.exe, Readme.txt, and any shortcuts
you may have made.

-----Frequency Asked Questions (FAQ)-----
-----------------------------------------
Q: How do I make a shortcut to Joy.exe in
my StartUp menu so every time I
restart my computer I get a joyful
   reminder?

A: There are several ways. The easiest
may be to ask a local person to help
you. If that's out of the question,
then try this, using the built-in
   Windows start menu editing facility:
   1. Left click on the "Start" button
      (in lower-left corner of your
      screen) and select "Settings" and
      then "Taskbar & Start Menu...".
   2. Choose the right tab called "Start
      Menu Programs".
   3. Press the "Add..." button.
   4. In the pop-up window that appears,
      press the "Browse..." button and
      navigate to the Joy.exe file
(wherever you decided to put it).
Once you've got it, press the
      "Open" button.
   5. Press the "Next" button.
   6. Scroll down until you see the
"StartUp" folder. Click on it and
      then click the "Next" button.
   7. Click the "Finish" button.
   8. Click the "OK" button and you're
      done!
-----------------------------------------
Q: Where is the list of joyful thoughts
   saved?

A: In a plain text file called Joy.txt
that lives in the same directory as
the Joy.exe application. It is not
created until the first time you run
   Joy.exe.
-----------------------------------------
Q: What if I enter something by mistake
and want to remove it from the list?

A: Open Joy.txt (found in the same
directory as Joy.exe) in any text
editor (e.g., Notepad) and delete the
entry, leaving no empty spaces or
lines where the erroneous entry once
   was.
-----------------------------------------
Q: I'm getting Visual Basic runtime/dll
   errors...!?

A: You may need to copy a Visual Basic
   runtime dll to your computer.
   www.simtel.net should have what you
   need available for download.
-----------------------------------------
Q: What's new in the new version (1.1)?

A: Version 1.0 has a faulty profanity
detector (in order to keep things
clean). Rather than trying to fix it,
we decided to do away with it, so
users of Joy.exe (Version 1.1) may
   save whatever they desire.
