1. WHAT IS CATVIDS?
----------------------------------------

CATVids is a powerful database program designed to help you catalog
and manage your video collection. CATVids works perfectly with all
types of media, including VHS tapes, DVDs and Laserdiscs. It will
keep track of not only your pre-recorded media, but also movies,
television programs and home videos which you record. Using CATVids
you can quickly catalog your movies by downloading information from
the Internet Movie Database. Designed for the Windows environment,
CATVids is comprehensive, intuitive, and easy to use.

You can work with an unlimited number of databases. This means
you can split your collection into different catalogs. CATVids
allows you to change the data field names to suit your personal
preferences. You can also hide the data fields you don't want to
use. Ultimately, this means you can customize the CATVids database
to suit your needs.

CATVids has a comprehensive set of data fields, enabling you to
catalog a wide range of information: title, media format, release
year, publisher, purchase date and price, current value, region,
special features, production year, studio, rating, director, writer,
cast and characters, synopsis, tape counter, recording speed,
recording date, personal rating, keywords, and more.

CATVids lets you manage both multiple-recording tapes and single
recording/pre-recorded tapes. Specify the length of the tape as well
as the length of your recordings and recording speed, and CATVids
will keep track of remaining space on your tapes at all recording
speeds. Use the Find Tape feature to quickly find a tape to record
on based upon the length and speed of the proposed recording.

You can effectively find the information you are looking for by
using the search and filter features. CATVids allows you search
your database with any combination of data fields and operators.

CATVids includes a report designer that lets you create
professional looking reports with exactly the layout you want.
Use one of the more than 100 pre-defined reports, or create your
own reports from scratch. You have full control over data fields,
groups, sort order, columns, fonts, colors, paper size, margins
and print orientation. CATVids lets you preview reports on screen
before printing, or save reports in virtually any file format.

You can quickly generate documents to be published on the
Internet. The loan module lets you keep track of videos on loan.
Check the program periodically to see what is still out on loan.
You will always know who has what and since when.

The statistics module allows you to analyze your collection in a
variety of ways. CATVids lets you track your initial investment
and the total value of your collection. Use the backup function
to make backup copies of your valuable data.

CATVids uses popup menus for quick feature access and navigation.
CATVids comes with a sample database to get you started and a
comprehensive, context sensitive on-line help system.

2. FEE FOR DISTRIBUTION OF SHAREWARE VERSION
----------------------------------------------------

Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBS(s) may have
charged a nominal fee for the distribution of the shareware
version of CATVids. This fee does not constitute payment for
the licensed version of CATVids, and does not entitle the
end-user to use the shareware version for longer than the
30-day evaluation period.

5. VERSION HISTORY
----------------------------------------------------

5.10.00 - May 31, 2002

* Upgraded help system to HTML Help.
* CATVids can now download awards and nominations from IMDb.
* You can now specify which IMDb site to use. The default site is
www.imdb.com (US), but you may change this to a IMDb mirror site
closer to you (for example uk.imdb.com or german.imdb.com).
* Keywords are now automatically sorted after download from IMDb.
* If you are using Internet Explorer, you can simply drag an image
from the web browser window to the CATVids data entry window.
By default, the image will be stored in the database. If you want
to link to the image, choose Tools->Preferences, click the Misc tab,
and select 'When dragging image from IE / Link to file'.
* You can copy the contents of the browse list to the clipboard
(right-click the list and choose 'Copy to Clipboard' from the
  popup menu).
* CATVids now supports the use of a bar code scanner when checking
videos in and out of the library. CATVids will handle any bar
code scanner that enters data via a keyboard interface. (These
are often referred to as "wedge" readers as they wedge themselves
in between the keyboard and your computer.) To use this feature,
you will have to enter the bar code number for all videos and all
  borrowers.
* You can place reservations for videos.
* You can send e-mail notifications to borrowers. This could be a
reminder that a video should be returned soon, a notification that
a video is overdue, or a notification that a reserved video is
  ready for collection.
* You can use special codes in URLs you add to the Sites menu
  (%TITLE%, %PUBLISHER%, %YEAR%, %CONTENTS_TITLE% and %CONTENTS_YEAR%).
The code is replaced with the field value from the active video when
you select the menu item. For example, to search Amazon.com for the
selected video title, use the following URL:
     http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/external-search?keyword=%TITLE%
        &mode=dvd&field-format=dvd|vhs|theatrical
* Removed the 'Search IMDb' command from the Tools menu, and instead
added a link to the IMDb seach page to the Sites menu. Note: To
manually add the link to the Sites menu, choose Sites->Edit Menu and
  add the following URL:
     http://www.imdb.com/search
* You can now use the Search and Replace function to update multi-value
fields (Special Features, Rating, Aspect Ratio, Dialog Language,
  Subtitle Language, Audio and Keywords).
* If you have linked to Quick Time files (mov) in the Multimedia/Video
field, you can now specify the path to the Quick Time player in
  preferences (Tools->Preferences->Multimedia).
* Added a new Maintenance function on the Tools menu allowing you to
perform various database maintenance tasks (for example regenerate
  thumbnails).
* When you switch to another browse layout (in the Browse window or
'Contents View' window) the current record does not change (in
previous versions the first record was activated).
* You can drag a report file from Windows Explorer and drop it on the
main CATVids window. CATVids will automatically copy the report
file to the Report folder and add the report to the Report menu.
Zipped report files are also supported.
* In the 'Contents Edit' window you can use shortcut keys to open the
'Select Multimedia File' window (F9 to select audio file and F10
  to select video file).
* Added the ability to export links to multimedia files.
* You can change the language encoding in CATVids Explorer.
* It is now possible to send a report to a text file.
* Updated registration procedure.
* BUG FIX: Error if searching for a text string starting with '['
(did also affect grouping and filtering).

5.01.02 - April 16, 2002

* BUG FIX: Error when trying to edit the properties of fields in
  a DBMulti-field object.

5.01.01 - April 11, 2002

* Updated the layout of the CATVids Explorer window, added
Back/Forward/Copy buttons, and a button to change the font size.
* Updated list layout in the 'Delete Unused Items' window.
* BUG FIX: DBCalc fields not reset if printing a report for the
second time from the 'Report Options' window.
* BUG FIX: Vertical gap between labels not set correctly.
* BUG FIX: Paper size reset to A4 in 'Page Setup' window.
* BUG FIX: Error when trying to compact a database if using the
Access 2000 database engine and locale was set to either
"Norwegian and Danish" or "Swedish and Finnish".

5.01.00 - March 2, 2002

* You can now specify whether CATVids should remove roman numerals
from a person's name when downloading data from IMDb. (You do
this in the 'Query IMDb Options' window.) A costume designer,
a director, and an actor may all be named John Smith, none of
whom are related. If they were not separated by use of
parenthesized roman numerals - (I), (II), (III), etc. -
their credits would all be combined, meaning there would be one
John Smith with all of their credits instead of three John Smiths
with the proper credits for each. For more information, see
  'http://www.imdb.com/FAQ#8'.
* "Unknown" credit roles can now be stored in the 'Credits - Other'
field when downloading data from IMDb.
* The 'Delete Unused Items' window now includes information about
whether a lookup item has attached images, and whether the memo
field contains something. By default, such items are not deleted.
* If you haven't specified the counter stop position for the
previous segment, CATVids will automatically fill it in when you
save the current segment. For example, if the start counter for
the current segment is 0:25:00, CATVids will fill in the same
counter in the counter stop field for the previous segment.
* The Video.Length field is now available in the Replace window.
* Database Properties window now includes the size of the database.
* To delete a record in the 'Loan History' window, right-click and
choose Delete from the popup menu.
* It is now possible to import multimedia links.
* The system object in report module now includes the ability to
print the name of the database.
* BUG FIX: Send e-mail button did not work if email client was
  specified in preferences.
* BUG FIX: Message box displayed several times if looking at a
  "recordable" video in CATVids Explorer.
* BUG FIX: Thumbnails are now created when importing links to images
using the Import / Text File command.
* BUG FIX: Item Info table not updated when importing data.
* BUG FIX: SuppressRepeatedValues property didn't work correctly if
data field was located on a group header band.

5.00.01 - December 11, 2001

* CATVids Explorer: You can now use Ctrl+C to copy the selected text
  to the clipboard.
* Added two new tape lengths to the video length popup menu: 160 min
  and 200 min.
* BUG FIX: Explore command on lookup fields popup menu not available
if 'Automatic edit' was disabled in preferences.
* BUG FIX: Error saving segment if downloaded tagline was longer than
  255 characters.
* BUG FIX: Not possible to type decimal separator in report properties
dialog box if standard decimal separator was set to '.' in Control
  Panel.
* BUG FIX: Some windows not resized correctly if using 'Large Fonts'.
* BUG FIX: Problems with data entry in counter column in the Events
  field.
