			      Futures Updater
				Version 1.1

			Murray E. Hines II (R) 2000

GENERAL:

Futures Updater allows the user to convert a text document containing
end-of-day futures contract prices from an internet site to ASCII comma
delimited text files for each contract that can be used with any charting
software capable of using comma delimited ASCII text files (Tradestation,
Supercharts, etc.) without cost. Currently only data from the internet site
www.accesstrading.com/quotes.html is supported by this software.

Futures Updater (Fupdate.ext) is written in Visual Basic 6.0 and
requires the runtime file MSVBM60.dll . This file can be obtained at www.simtel.net/simtel.net/win95/dll.html in the self-installing zip file
"simvb6-6.zip". Fupdatex.exe is a 32 bit program written and compiled in
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 for Windows 98. The software should also work
on Windows 95 and Windows NT, as well as, more recent versions of Windows
(Windows 2000 and Windows Me); however, the software has not been tested
with these products. A complete description of any errors or bugs found,
in addition to any error messages generated by Windows or the software
should be reported by e-mail to mhines@tifton.cpes.peachnet.edu.

INSTALLING Futures Updater:

Create a folder on your C: drive named C:\Futures. Copy all the
files in the setup package into that folder. Create a shortcut to your Desktop, Start Menu or Programs folder to allow easy access to the program.
Copy the files Msvbfup1.mb3 and MSVBM60.dll to the C:\Windows\System
folder. These files are necessary for the program to run. Create a
subfolder of C:\Futures named C:\Futures\Datafile using Windows Explorer.
This folder is where the converted text files for each futures contract are
saved. The software should now be properly installed.

Included with the software are the futures contract price data input
files obtained from www.accesstrading.com/quotes.html for the period ranging
from 1/1/2000 to 8/12/2000 for your convenience (Data.zip). Unzip these
files or extract them into the C;|Futures folder on your computer. These
files can be converted to usable comma delimited ASCII text files using
Futures Updater that can be used by any charting software capable of using
them (Tradestation, Supercharts, etc.). Files necessary for the program
to function are:

	C:\Futures\Fupdate.exe
	C:\Futures\FTsymbol.txt
	C:\Futures\Aboutfil.rtf
	C:\Futures\Ahelpfil.rtf
	C:\Futures\lastupd.txt
	C:\Windows\System\MSVBM60.dll (included in "simvb6-6.zip")
	C:\Futures\RegisterFup.exe (registration program)
	Data input files

USING Futures Updater:

Connect to the internet, start your internet browser and point it to
www.accesstrading.com/quotes.html . Select the appropriate date to download the futures price information. Click on <File>, then <Save as>,
then delete the ".html" extension on the file. Change the "Save as type:"
to "Plain text(*.txt)", then save the file to the C:\Futures folder on your
computer. Download and save all the files you desire in the same manner.

Fupdate uses the "lastupd.txt" file to keep track of the last data
input file that has been converted. Fupdate uses the file "FTsymbol.txt" to
determine which futures contract text files to add the prices to. You will
need to edit the file to include the futures contracts you wish to follow.
The file provided contains all the contracts that are currently viable.
Edit this file by clicking the <Edit Symbol File> button at the top of the
Fupdate menu. BE SURE to save the file each time you edit it.

Invoke the program "Fupdate.exe" by clicking the shortcut or
double-clicking the executable. The program will tell you how many uses you
have left and the last update file used. The update file text box will
show the correct format for the input file name for the current day. Edit
this to match the file you wish to convert or click the <Select> button to
locate the correct file in the pop-up window. The software does not check
to make sure that the data has been converted for a particular day. It
appends the prices to the end of the appropriate contract file in the
C:\Futures\Datafile folder. Note!!!: If you convert the same input file
twice it will write the data to the contract text file twice. If you
convert the input files out of date sequence, Fupdate will write the data
to the contract text files out of date sequence. The only way to correct
these problems is to manually edit each contract text file.

Convert the input data file by pressing the <Update> button. This
appends that days price data to the appropriate file. If you have multiple
files to update, edit the input file name and <Update> as before until all
are done. BE SURE to update the files in correct date sequence and not to
update the same file twice.

You will need to set your charting software to look in the
C:\Futures\Datafile folder to load the futures contract data. See
instructions provided with your charting software.

If you have problems, e-mail me at murrayhines@netscape.net or
 mhines@tifton.cpes.peachnet.edu.
