1. What's new in Version 2.0?

Agent-e 2.0 incorporates several suggestions and enhancements making it even easier to install, configure, and use. Those changes include:
? Ease of Installation:	Agent-e now includes a setup program to make installation easy.
? Uninstall:	We've included an automated uninstall tool for those users who try but do not want to keep Agent-e. You can now uninstall it from Control Panel. Remember to exit Agent-e before uninstall.
? Easy Configuration:	Agent-e now detects server and configuration information automatically for Outlook Express users.
? Mail Filters:	You can now configure email message priority from various senders. For example, you can be signaled with a popup message window when email arrives from a specific email account. There are also anti-'Spam' filters to prevent Agent-e from seeing email messages sent from specific email accounts.
? Customizable:	Each of the five POP3 accounts can have individual, customized settings. These include not only the login and mail server, but also the sound to be played when there is new mail, the frequency of checking and the mail client to be executed on demand!
? Hiding Messages:	Agent-e can be configured to hide all messages after being viewed - very helpful when you still haven't received that important message that you are waiting for.

Even with all of this additional functionality, Agent-e is still one of the smallest and fastest email checkers on the market today!

2. Installation Instructions

If you are not familiar with installation procedures, we recommend that you print these pages for easy reference. On-line Help with graphical explanation is available at http://www.levaly.com/products/agent-e/help

If you do not already have the latest version of Agent-e and would like to retrieve it, follow these steps:
* Visit www.levaly.com/products/ and follow the online prompts to download the version that is right for you.
* When prompted to either "Open File" or "Save File", choose to save it. Then choose a temporary directory on your hard drive where it will be easily accessible (for example c:\windows\temp\ ).

Execute Agente2setup.exe and follow the on-screen prompts. Agent-e will install itself into your "Program Files" directory creating a "Levaly" subdirectory. It will then attempt to automatically configure itself by querying Windows for your POP3 email account and mail server. If it cannot detect these parameters, you will be prompted to provide them. See the instructions later in this document or your Internet Service Provider documentation for more details on your mail server and account information.

Should you at any point during your trial period decide that Agent-e isn't the fastest and easiest to use mail checker, simply remove Agent-e through the "Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs" option or double-click on the Unwise.exe program, found in the original Agent-e install directory and Agent-e will be removed from your system.

Once Agent-e is properly installed on your computer, you must launch the Agente.exe application. To do so, go to the installed directory and double-click on the 'agente.exe' icon.

A window appears that will allow you to configure Agent-e including your new filters. If Agent-e was not successful in detecting your configuration, read the following section according to what email package you currently use. If Agent-e was successful in detecting your server and login name, you will simply have to enter your password and then skip to Section 4.

3. Set-up Instructions

Agent-e help files are divided according to your default email software and browser. Note that Agent-e does NOT require any of those products to run. The purpose of this section is only to help you configure Agent-e accordingly. Your email software/client is an easy way to find out essential information since it is already configured. For additional information about Agent-e and future functionality, please consult the "Frequently Asked Questions" section.

There are different ways to get the necessary information to set-up Agent-e, depending on the browser/email application you are using:

Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook users

From this window you can also choose a different notification sound file for when you receive new email.

Once you are ready to use Agent-e you can refer to the help section on "How to maximize your experience with Agent-e" section. (Next section)

Netscape Navigator and Netscape Messenger users
When you first launch Agent-e the "Account Property" window will greet you. This window is where you need to specify information related to your email accounts, such as your mail server, user name and password.

How to find out your POP3 Server using Netscape:
* Choose the menu item "Edit"
* Choose the item "Preferences"
* Choose the tab "Mail Servers"

Check the "Automatically launch Agent-e at start-up" box to automatically start Agent-e when you start your computer. From this window you can also choose a different notification sound file for when you receive new email.

Special Note for Netscape Messenger Users
If you are using Netscape Messenger and want Agent-e to launch it automatically when you left-click on a message, you need to complete the following steps:

Create a new shortcut. Do this by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting "NEW" and then "SHORTCUT". A dialogue box will appear - select the "BROWSE" button. You are looking for your Netscape.exe application; if you followed the default installation it should be found at "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\". Select the "Netscape.exe" application but do not close the dialogue box. Add the "-mail" parameter at the end, outside of the quotes. It will appear similar to the following:

"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\Netscape.exe" -mail

Click the "NEXT" button and call this new shortcut "Messenger." Place the shortcut in the desired directory (default would be the above directory) and refer Agent-e to that shortcut. To refer Agent-e to this new shortcut, simply right-click the Agent-e icon in your Windows tasktray; select "Account Setup"; select the account that you want to use Netscape Messenger; and finally, enter the location of this new shortcut. It will appear similar to the following:

"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\messenger.lnk"

DO NOT CLICK OPEN TO SELECT THE NEW SHORTCUT. Instead, type in the path to your newly created shortcut, with the appropriate LNK (link) extension. Once you are ready to use Agent-e refer to the following section on how to maximize your experience with Agent-e.

4. How to maximize your experience with Agent-e...

Agent-e minimizes to your Windows tasktray to a blue icon for easy access at all times. When you receive new email, the blue "A" changes to a red "E" indicating this. When your cursor is placed over the red "E" of Agent-e, a display box appears to give you details about how many new email are awaiting you.

<Left-Click> menu
A simple click (left button of your mouse) will open a custom "menu like" window with a list of all your new email. This list shows you who has sent you email (this email has not been retrieved - more on this below).

When your cursor is placed over a specific message, a ToolTip-message box will popup showing the subject line and the POP3 account that it relates to.

Left-click again on any senders name and your selected email software will be launched to manage your messages. Agent-e was not designed to read or reply to email. It was designed to alert you when you receive new email, show you who has sent it to you and what the subject of the email is. By right-clicking on a message you can configure the priority of the sender. There are 3 levels of alerts:
* High Priority (VIP): When you receive email from these specific email accounts, a dialogue box will immediately popup showing you more details. It will also make the "Scroll Lock" light on your keyboard flash in case your monitor is using a Screen Saver or is turned off.
* Normal Priority: Regular Agent-e handling - this is the default for all email accounts who send you mail unless you configure it otherwise.
* 'Spam' Priority: Agent-e will never show you email sent from these email accounts.

The advantage to using Agent-e is that you do not need your email client/software opened at all times. Agent-e consumes less than 100K of RAM and very little in the way of Windows resources. You no longer need to keep your email package open at all times while waiting for that important message!

To read your email, simply left-click on any message to launch your default email software (as specified in Agent-e Set-up).

You can also choose the menu option "Hide All" to hide every message currently present on all your mail servers (choose "Show All" option to reverse the previous action). Hiding a message does NOT mean that it will be deleted. To delete or respond to any message, use your default email software/client. If you find yourself always selecting the "Hide All" option, simply go to the "Account Configuration" options and select the "Automatically hide messages after viewing" option.

Use the "Close" option to close the Agent-e window. If you wish to quit Agent-e, please refer to the section below detailing the options available to the right-click menu of Agent-e. You can also suspend the activities of Agent-e simply by selecting the "Suspend" option within the same menu window.

To check your mail now, simply click on the "Check Mail Now" option. If you are using an Internet connection that uses a phone line, Agent-e will prompt you to connect using your default connection settings.

<Right-Click> menu
A simple click (right button of your mouse) will open-up a custom menu-like window with a list of options to help you customize Agent-e. The "About Shareware" section will show you how to register your version of Agent-e. Registering Agent-e provides numerous benefits, including free updates and notification of other great Levaly products.

The "Account Setup" menu will help you set-up your email settings and more. See Section 3 for details on how to get started. One of the newest and most powerful features in Agent-e 2.0 is the support for high-priority email and anti-"Spam" defense. Click on "Set-up Mail Filter Controls" to configure high-priority users where you would like Agent-e to popup a window showing more details whenever you receive email from that user. Similarly, click on users to prevent Agent-e from showing or notifying you of anything that they send you. Users who have never sent you email default to 'normal' handling and they will appear in the Agent-e listing unless you configure them differently. These selections can be changed at any time. See the "Account Filter Property" window for more details on these different filter levels. These filters are also available by right-clicking any message. To ensure you are only notified of new messages, even if you haven't used your email package all day, select the "Automatically hide messages after viewing" option. This ensures that once you have checked your messages with Agent-e, you will not be notified again until new messages arrive. Note that even though these messages no longer show, they are still available for your email package to retrieve.

Per-user settings
Agent-e supports up to 5 pop accounts. These accounts can all have individual, personalized settings! Most of the options listed above can be configured per-user. Simply enter (or click on the folder button to 'browse' your computer) the path to your email package or the sound you'd like to have played when email arrives. As an example, let's configure Microsoft's Outlook Express to be the default email reader.
* Right-click on the tasktray Agent-e icon and select "Account Setup"
* Click on the folder pushbutton to the right of "Email application to use"
* Move to your Outlook Express directory - in this case let's assume the default directory of ""C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\"
* Select "msimn.exe" and press the "Open" button. You will be returned to Agent-e and Outlook Express is will now be executed when you left-click on a message.

5. How do I uninstall Agent-e?

Click on your "Start" menu and highlight "Settings", then "Control Panel". Select the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. Click on Agent-e in the resulting dialogue box and the uninstall process will begin. You can also uninstall Agent-e by navigating to the directory that you installed Agent-e in and running the unwise.exe application. In either case, Agent-e will automatically be removed from your computer.
