Overview
--------
QuikSize is a simple shareware program designed to make it
easy to resize windows on-screen to common sizes at the touch
of a key. It was originally designed for programmers who need a
quick way to view the current window or dialog at 640x480,
800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions, but also includes a few
features that everyone can use.

The 32-bit program runs under the Windows 95/98/NT operating
systems. It is self-contained, and doesn't need any run-time
DLLs except for normal Windows components).

The utility includes the following functionality (all features
are activated by pressing a certain hot-key combination, which
you define):

  - Ability to size the active window to 640x480,
    800x600 or 1024x768 resolution.

  - Ability to minimize or maximize the current window.

  - Ability to set the current window to full screen. This
provides for all programs a mode similar to the full-screen
modes that Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office products
provide. (Function operates as a toggle)

  - Ability to move the active window to the top, bottom, left
or right halves of the screen (as if you had Tiled with
    only one other open window).

  - Ability to activate your screen saver on demand.

Note that the resizing commands work on almost all windows,
including things like dialog boxes and message boxes. This
capability is provided for your benefit. The program runs in
the background and shows itself on the system tray. You can
disable and enable the functionality any time; the system tray
icon indicates its current status.

See section below for more details on usage.

Revision History
----------------
0.9 14 Jan 99 Public beta

1.0	30 Apr 99 Public release 1.0. Added additional
                      goodies, like screen saver activation.

Known Bugs
----------
- Issuing resizing hot keys while the Desktop is the active window
will sometimes result in some flickering as Windows sets it back to
the way it should be. No harm is done, though.

- If you create a shortcut to the program, don't try to specify a
different "Start In" directory. The program expects to find a
configuration file in the main directory. Specifying a different
directory will require you to teach it your shortcuts one more
time (or manually copy the configuration file).

Installation
------------

Since there is only one file, we did not create an installation
program (seems a bit wasteful).

1.) Extract the files to the directory of choice.
2.) Run QuikSize.exe.

You can put a shortcut to the program in your Startup folder for
automatic launching.

You need to configure the program the first time, which just
involves telling it which hot-key combinations you would like
to use (see below).

Uninstalling
------------

1.) Delete the QuikSize.EXE file.
2.) Delete the QuikSize.CFG file (created automatically).

That's it. The program does not pollute your Windows directories
or the system registry.

Configuration
-------------

After installing and running the program for the first time, you
will see the configuration dialog. This screen lists all the
available commands with which you may associate keyboard shortcuts.
These shortcuts are system-wide, and may override local program
key-combinations.

To associate shortcuts, move your cursor into the box to the right
of the command, and press the shortcut keys you would like to use.
A description of what you have selected appears in the box. Note
that you cannot choose single letters, and that QuikSize will
automatically select Ctrl + Alt for you in this case. If you were
allowed to use plain letters and numbers for shortcuts, it would
make typing rather difficult.

The best way to figure out how each function works is to try it
out. Use a program like Notepad for easy results. The commands
work on the active window. There are two commands worth extra
explanation, though:

  - Favorite position -- The program allows you to specify a
favorite window size and position. To use this, just drag
and size any window to the place and size you like, and then
press Ctrl + Alt + F12. (This is a special combination and
cannot be changed. Also, using this combination for any other
command will disable the ability to save the favorite position.)
Now you can issue the favorite position command on any window
to move and size it as you have defined.

  - Full Screen -- This provides a full-screen mode for programs
which don't provide one. For those that do, use theirs, as it
will most probably be nicer. To use this feature, issue the
shortcut. The window will occupy the whole screen. Our version
retains the menu at the top for your convenience. You may enjoy
the extra real-estate that the Full Screen command permits. To
restore the window to its previous size, issue the command again,
or use any of the other window commands.

Once you're done configuring, click on OK. The program will save
your settings in a tiny configuration file. Don't delete it or you'll
have to re-program them.

After the configuration screen goes away, an icon will appear in
the system tray (it looks like a few keys). You may right-click on
this icon to obtain a menu with the following commands:

  - Enable QuikSize -- This operates as a master on/off switch
for all of the hotkey combinations. The icon will reflect your
    current choice.

  - Configure Keys -- This takes you to the configuration screen
to review or change your shortcut keys. You may also get to this
screen by double-clicking on the system tray icon.

  - About QuikSize -- Displays the About screen. Highly informative.

  - Register -- If you have not registered, this screen will allow
you to enter the key to unlock the program for long-term use.
To obtain this key, see Registration, above.

  - Exit -- Quits the program.

That's all! Enjoy!!
