AutoClipClear is a tiny little application that automatically clears the Windows 95/98 Clipboard when run. It doesn't remain in memory and immediately terminates after its job is done. It takes less than a second to clear the contents of your Clipboard. It works silently and it doesn't display any messages, it just does its work (if the Clipboard is already empty when it is run, then nothing happens).

What may this be good for, you may ask...

Well, you may want to release from the Clipboard e.g., a huge image that may unnecessarily bind your system resources thus decreasing the amount of RAM available on your PC, but even more importantly, you may use it as a security add-on to increase the safety of your data and your privacy. How?

Just imagine a situation that you log into your Hotmail account pasting into its input box your long, complicated (and safe!) password from the Clipboard using Ctrl+V keys (many people do that, surprisingly). As soon as you do this, your password shall be loaded into the memory of that PC and in case it has not been restarted it will remain there even for many hours, until... you Cut or Copy any other information into the Clipboard, automatically replacing the previous one. But what may happen if you just check your mail at Hotmail and leave, allowing another user to use that PC? You probably guess it by yourself by now - if this user presses Ctrl+V keys in any text editor... your password will be displayed on screen and compromised. The same applies to any other textual or graphic info that might have been Cut or Copied into the Clipboard - if you like, an entire business, legal or other sensitive or personal letter or other documentation, bank account data etc., that should have been kept private and confidential.

And here's when the AutoClipClear comes to the rescue. Just execute this tiny formless applet and the Clipboard is immediately empty! If you like, you may even place a shortcut of this program into any Windows scheduler and configure it to be run when your PC becomes idle for a given amount of time or even run it simultaneously with your screen saver!

AutoClipClear is your irreplaceable security helper if you often use different PCs at public places as Internet cafs, hotels, as well as international conferences, etc. As it is a stand-alone and small applet not requiring any installation, configuration or additional libraries, it may be easily run from a diskette. When you finish using the PC, run AutoClipClear to clear the Clipboard... and to duly sweep after yourself. In combination with our other security program, Swap File Overwriter (see the link to our Web site at the bottom of this Read Me file), it will provide you with enhanced safety, privacy and confidentiality of your work in Windows 95/98.
