(i) Known Installation Issues
============================
Problem: The following message(s) or similar is displayed while
starting or running the program:- 'Alias Not Found', 'Table Not Found',
'Unknown Database Alias', 'Object Not Found', 'Could Not Find Object',
'Merging the configuration file has failed', 'Engine version mismatch'
Cause: The aliases are stored in the Borland Database Engine (BDE)
configuration file, which is a shared resource used by many applications.
It is possible that another application that uses the BDE was
running during the installation, or there may be a previous
installation of the BDE, which was not correctly uninstalled
or registered with the system registry. Either way, the
installation program was unable to automate the setup.
Solution: Make sure that that no programs are running,
then Re-Run Setup selecting the COMPACT SETUP type.
This will re-install the Borland Database Engine components
only and seems to cure the problem. If this fails you may have
to manually setup the aliases - see aliases below or in the program help.
If this does not work see the MrgError.txt file for further help.

When you run the program you will see speed buttons with Icons on
the screen. If the icons are not visible you need to update your
Comctl32.dll file to a later version. You can use the utility
program 40comupd.exe to update the file. See program help on Microsoft
upgrade.

(ii) Backing Up
==============
The ..\Data(xx) folder contain the critical Data files which can
NOT be replaced if you suffer system problems, etc. BACK THEM UP !!!
To prevent an acidental overwrite on a re-install the files in
the data directory are not overwritten if they exist. If you wish
to replace the existing files with empty files, manually delete
the contents of the data directory first then re-install the data files.

(iii) Installation
================
To Install unzip the zip file into a temp folder and
run the setup program.

(iii-b) IMPORTANT - Installing on a Network
========================================
BDE Network Access Requirements & Data Directory information

The default location of Files
(where ProgramName is the installed program) is:-
DriveX:\Program Files\DataLynx\ProgramName\Data(xx) (Database Tables)
DriveX:\Program Files\DataLynx\ProgramName (Program/help files)
DriveX:\Program Files\DataLynx\ProgramName\Rpt (Temporary Tables)
DriveX:\Program Files\Borland\Comman Files\BDE (Borland Database Engine)

FILE LOCATIONS
During the Installation SETUP, select a CUSTOM SETUP in order
to install the following components in the correct locations.
For maximum speed on a network:-
Load the Program Application, Help Files and Borland Database
Engine (BDE) on the local hard drives.
Load the Data Tables on the network server.
Always Load any Report & Temporary Files on the local hard drive

BORLAND DATABASE ENGINE SETUP
Following the Installation SETUP, it is critical the the BDE is
configured correctly for use on a network. You will need to check
and or set on each machine:-
1.Alias settings
2.Net Dir settings
3.Local Share setting

ALIASES
The program reads the ALIASES set in the BDE Administrator to
locate files. Aliases contain the path to the locations of
directories used by the program. If you install in a none
standard location or receive the messages 'UnKnown Alias',
'Path/Table not Found', check your aliases. An example of typical
aliases is listed below, it assumes that the data files are loaded
on the server which we will call F: and the Program and Database
engine is installed on the local drive C:

(EXAMPLE ONLY)
Alias Name	Path Setting Storage
Program C:\Program Files\Datalynx\ProgramName Program Folder
ProgramData	F:\Program Files\Datalynx\ProgramName\Data(xx)	Data Tables
ProgramReports	C:\Program Files\Datalynx\ProgramName\Rpt	Temporary Tables

Setting up aliases (See the Database Topic in the program Help
file for the alises names required)
1. Run the BDE Administrator from Program group of icons
2. Select Databases Tab
3. If Databases has a plus sign next to it, Click it to display the Aliases
4. Click the Icon next to the Alias Name you wish to edit,
5. Use the browser button in the Definitions screen on the right to set the Path to the correct location.
6. Repeat step 4 & 5 for all aliases in list
7. Save Edits when you Exit
If the alias does not exist
1. Select Object on the menu
2. Select New and Click OK
3. A new alias will appear highlighted on the left of the screen, edit the default name given to that required
4. Use the browser button on the Definitions screen on the right to set the Path to the correct location.
5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for all aliases in list
6. Save Edits when you Exit

NET DIR SETTINGS (Network Control File - Pdoxusrs.net)
The Net Dir setting (BDE Network Control File - pdoxusrs.net)
in the BDE Administrator MUST BE SET TO THE SAME location on ALL
local systems- Typically F:\
Where ever it is placed, all Users will require FULL Read/Write
Access to all data locations and the BDE Network Control File location
- it is necessary to grant access to the entire drive (root level access).
Note. If you do not have a Pdoxusrs.net file it will be automaticaly
created the first time you run the application program.

A consequence of ignoring the correct setup of the Net Dir
(Pdoxusrs.net file) can be lost data and damaged Tables,
often accompanied with the message 'index out of date'.

To Set the Network control file
1. Run BDE Administrator from PowerQuote group of icons
2. Select Configuration Tab
3. Click the plus next to Configuration
4. Click the plus next to Drivers
5. Click the plus next to Native
6. Click the Icon next to Paradox
7. Use the browser button on the Definition screen on the right to set the Net Dir to the correct location.
8. Save Edits when you Exit

LOCAL SHARE
IF you are running on a network you must also set the
System Configuration Setting:- Local Share = TRUE to ensure
effective record locking.
To Set local share
1. Run BDE Administrator from PowerQuote group of icons
2. Select Configuration Tab
3. Click the plus next to Configuration
4. Click the plus next to System
5. Click the plus next to INIT
6. Edit the LOCAL SHARE to be TRUE in the Definition screen on the right
8. Save Edits when you Exit

Other Considerations
1. Generally, all technical papers we have read recommend Disabling
the 'New File Sharing and Locking Semantics' with Windows 95 to
prevent problems.
2. Although our software instructs that edits made to tables
be written to disk after each update, Windows will cache
these by default until it is ready. This can also be disabled
by selecting 'Disable write behind caching for all drives'.
This gives the best chance of preventing table out of date
problems should you experience any operating system problems.
The down side of disabling caching is a possible decrease in
performance. It is an option of Safety v Speed, the choice is
down to the user.
Both of these options can be set on the Troubleshooting Tab
of the File System Properties Form in System on the control Panel.

If you are installing on Windows NT/95 also see the file
TI3342.html.

(iv) Manual
=========
If you would like to print the on line help out as manual,
locate the <programname>.doc file in the program directory
(where <programname> is the name of the program you are
installing i.e. CallMgr.doc for the CallMgr program).
Hint. if you can not locate the file use Start.. Find... Files or Folders.

(v) Software Status
================
This Software Program is Shareware. This means that the
unregisterd 30 days trial version is a fully usable version
and can be freely distributed for trial purposes. However,
registered versions must be paid for so can not be redistributed.

(vi) Program Description
======================
Call Manager is contact management database software that maintains
contact records on customers. It screens incoming phone calls, notifies
you of the caller ID and automatically locates and displays the record
for the incoming caller. Customer records contain fields designed to
help with effective future marketing and predicting sales targets. Each
of the customer records contains a contact table where details of each
call is entered along with a date stamp. Enter From-To dates to display
all records that require a call-back for that period, Call Manager can
also auto dial the telephone number of the selected record for you.
Many fields are available for instant search or lookup of records. You
can also apply powerful filters to the database using any combination
of fields and conditions to display records that match specific
criteria. E.g. To display sales leads with a 75% or greater chance of
ordering by a certain date. Reports can be run to help with sales
forecasting, mailing labels can also be produced using the selection
criteria. Report Generators like Crystal Reports can be utilised to
produce custom reports, or word processors like Microsoft Word can be
used to import data direct into mail-merge letters.
