INSTALLATION
************

1. This program requires VBRUN300.DLL which is not included because
of its size. It is available for download from the Simtel.Net
   as vbrun300.zip in /simtelnet/win3/dll directory.
It is also available from many on-line services and BBSs.

2. If you downloaded a ZIP file from an online service or the
Internet, unzip the file to a \temp directory. Do not create
a c:\prtscr95 directory as your initial unzipping location.
The Visual Basic setup program will not extract files to the
same directory that the installation files are executed from.
C:\prtscr95 is the default destination directory when you run
setup.exe. this can be changed to any directory at the time
of installation, and the directory you key in will be created
   if it doesn't already exist.

If you received an installation diskette, insert the diskette
into the 3" diskette drive and proceed to the next step.

3. Run setup.exe from the diskette drive or installation
directory. The PrintScreen 95 files will be copied to your
hard drive, and all files will be copied to the destination
directory. None of the files in your Windows or Windows/System
directory will be overwritten. This makes un-installation
simple. Just delete the entire contents of the PrintScreen 95
   directory to uninstall.

   ** Hint **
To start PrintScreen 95 automatically when Windows 95 starts,
place a shortcut to the program in the Start-Up folder using the
   following path:

   c:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\Prtscr95.exe

You can edit the shortcut Properties, and select a RUN option
   for "Minimized".

OPERATING INSTURCTIONS
**********************

   PRINTING THE FULL WINDOWS SCREEN
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

PrintScreen 95 must be running, either in a minimized or
normal window state to operate. * The Print Screen
checkbox must also be checked. * To print the entire
Windows desktop, press the PRINT SCREEN key on the
        PC keyboard.

PRINTING THE SELECTED (ACTIVE) WINDOW ONLY
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Press the ALT KEY, and then press PRINT SCREEN while
holding the ALT KEY down. (This function will not work if
the keys are pressed one at a time.) * The Print Screen
checkbox must also be selected. *

   USING THE SELECT AREA FEATURE
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

To select a rectangular area, press the Select Area
button. This feature is not selectable when the program
is hidden behind other windows or running minimized. To
bring up PrintScreen 95 from one of these states, press
the ALT and TAB keys together, and while holding the ALT
key, toggle the TAB key to select the PrintScreen 95 icon.
When you have it selected, release the keys and
PrintScreen 95 should appear on the desktop.

When Select Area is pressed, the PrintScreen 95 window
will hide itself, and after a few seconds, the
mouse pointer will change to a cross-hair. AFTER the
mouse pointer changes, you can select any area of the
screen to print by pressing the left mouse button and
dragging the pointer down and to the right to draw a
rectangle. Immediately upon releasing the mouse button,
the area within the rectangle will be captured and sent
        to the default Windows printer.

   USING THE PRINTER SETUP FEATURE
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Press the Printer Setup button to display the Windows
Printer Setup dialog box. Selections can be made for
printer to receive the output, as well as orientation,
paper size, etc. The selections made are loaded as
        permanent changes the printer defaults.

                                    Page 4

   USING THE SAVE .BMP FUNCTION
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When the Save .BMP checkbox is checked, the print options
defined earlier (Page 2) will also be used to define the
Window, Active window or Selected Area to be saved as a
        Windows Bitmap image file.

*Note* The Save As Windows .BMP dialog box will display,
and you must enter the filename to save, including the
.bmp extension. PrintScreen 95 was compiled as a 16 bit
application in order to remain compatible with Windows
3.1, and Windows for Workgroups, and WILL NOT SAVE LONG
FILE NAMES, unlike other Windows 95 applications.

   USING THE DOS PRINT FEATURE
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When the DOS Print Enable checkbox is checked, PrintScreen
95 monitors the Windows clipboard and captures the text
from any FULL SCREEN DOS application when the PRINT SCREEN
key is pressed. The DOS text is then sent to the default
Windows Printer. This feature is disabled by default, as
it conflicts with copy and paste options in other Windows
applications. The checkbox can be selected when it's
        necessary to use the feature.

When running a DOS prompt in Windows Box, the DOS
application is seen by Windows as a Windows Graphics
format, and will print the screen or window in graphics,
        rather than text mode.

   USING THE SAVE SETTINGS FEATURE
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

After you have selected the options that you want to be
active when PrintScreen 95 is started, press the Save
Settings button to save the options to
        \windows\prtscr95.ini. The text on the
Save Settings button should flash RED to indicate that the
options were saved. When PrintScreen 95 is launched,
the selected options will be active.

   PRINTSCREEN '95 - UPDATE NOTES
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thank you for evaluating the NEW PRINTSCREEN ' 95 ! ! ! ! !
Following is a description of the new operating characteristics
and enhancements:

The new version RE-DEFINES the PRINT KEY on the keyboard to
function as a "REAL" screen print key, and allows you to print
the ENTIRE SCREEN by selecting PRINT, and will print only the
ACTIVE window using ALT + PRINT.

Pressing the PRINT KEY from a DOS prompt will print the text
contents of the DOS application. Windows does not recognize
line draw characters, however; and will print + and - sign
characters instead of line draw components.

Pressing the SELECT AREA button allows you to draw a RECTANGLE
on the screen using the MOUSE POINTER, and PRINT/SAVE the
selected area.
(Note: The rectangle must be drawn from the top left corner to
the bottom right corner of the selected area.)

IMPORTANT oooo IMPORTANT oooo IMPORTANT oooo IMPORTANToooo

The video RESOLUTION selected in the Windows Desktop MUST be a
256 COLOR (or fewer) selection. Using a 32K, 64K or 16.7 Million
color driver can produce an "ERROR PRINTING CLIENT AREA" message.

The program may be DISABLED with the RADIO BUTTON on the form,
which ALLOWS IMAGES to be copied to the clipboard and pasted
into and out of different applications, as is typically done
in Windows. VERSION 2.7 now supports printing 256 COLOR bitmap
images. An option is also provided to SAVE the SCREEN or ACTIVE
WINDOW image to a .BMP file.
You can select Invert Colors to print screens with dark
backgrounds and light text in reverse image. This saves
excessive toner usage and prints dark characters on a light or
white background.

PrintScreen 95 operates by capturing the image loaded to the
clipboard as the print key is pressed. It therefore becomes
necessary to DISABLE the program when "NORMAL" usage of the
CLIPBOARD is required. If ENABLE DOS PRINT is left unchecked,
text only CUT & PASTE operations will not be affected.
