Modem Problems:	Detecting DTMF Telephone Keypad Tones

I have found that some Rockwell based, lower priced generic modems don't detect the DTMF digital tones very well. If you want to check your modem for dropouts you can set the application to answer with a password, start the supervisor, then dial in and try to key the password. Shell the current session communications detail and it should show the telephone keypad entries as in this example where "1234" is the password. This modem, a 56K generic dropped the "3" character. It won't always be the same charater. I had to key the "#" character twice. It dropped the first one. You can also test a modem using the speaker-phone commands with a communications terminal program. I use a Zoom ComStar 28.8 which works well with this application. As I said before, I also use a 56K Flex Generic which drops a lot of DTMF tones.
