WordPerfect is a word processing program which runs on a number of
different machines. In the "real world", WordPerfect is the most popular
word processor for IBM and IBM compatible personal computers.

Electronic publications are usually produced using a proprietary piece
of software, like WordPerfect. Many publishers will then strip out the
imbedded control characters (which do things like underline, change
fonts, change margins, etc.) and create an ASCII file for posting to a
network. Some versions of journals, however, may be posted in the original
form with (e.g.) WordPerfect control characters still imbedded. In order to
see them as they were originally produced, you will need to load the file
into WordPerfect. WordPerfect will interpret the imbedded codes correctly,
and display the document as it was originally designed.
