III. Description of Personal Recipe Manager
III. Description of Personal Recipe Manager

Personal Recipe Manager is a program designed to edit, file, and
print your personal recipes. It is organized much like a box of
index cards with dividing cards. In a recipe card file each
category is labeled on a dividing card, with recipes that fit
into that category placed behind the dividing card. Personal
Recipe Manager has the equivalent of 30 dividing cards, or
categories, and the potential of 105 recipe cards behind each
dividing card, or category. This makes for a file with a total
          of 3,150 recipes.

IV. Installation of Personal Recipe Manager

          Two disk drive systems:
          Two disk drive systems:

Format a blank disk to be used by Personal Recipe Manager as
               a working disk.

Copy the files named PRM.EXE and PRMPREP.EXE onto the
               working disk.

Place the working disk into the default drive and run
PRMPREP.EXE. This will initialize the files needed for the
               program.

Delete PRMPREP.EXE from the working disk.

The Personal Recipe Manager working disk is now ready to
               use.

          Hard disk systems:
          Hard disk systems:

Create a sub-directory for the recipe files to reside in. A
suggested name is PRMFILES. Use the command MD \PRMFILES to
               create this sub-directory.

Copy the files named PRM.EXE and PRMPREP.EXE into the
directory for the recipe files. As an alternative, you can
copy the two files into a directory on the hard drive that
has a search path set to it. (i.e. If you placed the files
named PRM.EXE and PRMPREP.EXE into C:\BIN, then the path
               should contain C:\BIN. )

Change directory into the recipe files directory. For the
               suggested sub-directory use CD \PRMFILES.

Run PRMPREP.EXE to initialize the needed files.

          B. Main Menu

When you start Personal Recipe Manager you will be placed at the
main menu. This will give you a list of thirty possible
categories. These categories are displayed in alphabetical
order. The first time that you run Personal Recipe Manager, you
will not have any categories set up for you. In the main menu
you can select any one of five functions. These functions are:

                    Look in a category
                    Add a new category
                    Rename a category
                    Delete a category
                    Quit program

We will take a look at each one of these functions.

          1. Look in a category
          1. Look in a category

When you select this option you will be asked for the number of
the category to look in. You will then enter the category
number. If you enter an invalid number you will be returned back
to the main menu. If you enter the number of an existing
category, you will be shown the first fifteen recipe titles in
the category, and you will be place at the category menu. The
recipes are displayed in alphabetical order. The category menu
          has the following choices:

                    Read a recipe
                    Add a recipe
                    Delete a recipe
                    Edit a recipe
Move a recipe to a different category
                    Page down in recipe titles
                    Page up in recipe titles
                    Quit category

We will talk about each of these a little later.

          2. Add a new category
          2. Add a new category

When you select this option, you will be asked for the name of
the new category. You can enter any name you choose. A name
can have spaces, numbers, letters and punctuation in it. It can
be up to 25 characters in length. Once you have entered the name
that you want, just press the return and the new category will be
created, and you will be returned to the main menu.

          3. Rename a category
          3. Rename a category

When you select this option, you will be prompted for the number
of the category that you wish to rename. If you enter an invalid
category number, you will be returned to the main menu. Once you
enter a valid category number, you will be asked for the new name
for the category. Once you have entered the new category name
and have pressed the return key, you will be place back into the
          main menu.

          4. Delete a category
          4. Delete a category

Selecting this option will allow you to delete an entire category
and the recipes that the category may contain. Once you delete a
category, you cannot retrieve any of the recipes that it may have
contained. After selecting this option you will be asked for the
number of the category that you wish to delete. If you enter an
invalid category number, you will be returned to the main menu
without any further action. If you enter a valid category
number, the program will display the name of the category and ask
you if you really want to delete the category. If you answer

the category menu. The recipes are displayed in alphabetical
order. The category menu has the following choices:

                    Read a recipe
                    Add a recipe
                    Delete a recipe
                    Edit a recipe
Move a recipe to a different category
                    Page down in recipe titles
                    Page up in recipe titles
                    Quit category

These functions will be used to create, modify, delete, read, and
          print recipes.

          1. Read a recipe
          1. Read a recipe

When you select this option of the category menu, you will be
prompted for the number of the recipe that you wish to view. If
you enter a number that is not a valid recipe number, you will be
returned to the category menu. After you select a valid recipe
number, that recipe will be displayed to you one page at a time.
When you reach the bottom of the recipe, you will be given the
opportunity to print the recipe if you desire. If you select
the print option, you will be asked whether to print directly to
the printer, or to send the recipe to a DOS file. If you select
the printer option then you will need to make sure that your
printer is on and the paper is set at the top of the page. Once
your printer is ready, press any key to start the printing. If
you select the file option, you will be prompted for the name of
the file to place the recipe into. After you have done this, a
copy of the recipe will be placed into the named file. One
reason for the ability to place a recipe into a file is to allow
you the chance to include recipes into a word processor. After
you have finished with reading and printing a recipe, you will
be returned to the category menu.

you select a valid recipe number the name of the recipe will be
displayed, and you will be asked if you really want to delete the
recipe. If you answer 'Y' or 'y', then the recipe will be
